¡Hola! I'm Chris Blanco, a Filipino self-taught artist based in Madrid, Spain. My journey as an artist started in childhood. Like anyone else growing up, I was often asked by friends, and especially adults, what I wanted to be when I grew up. At the back of my mind, I always imagined being an artist, even though I would reply with different professions like a doctor, a teacher, or a priest. This was because being an artist wasn't what most people wanted to hear from a young kid; art was widely viewed as a childhood pastime, not a real profession.

Cut to 2020, during the stillness of the lockdown. I was working a graveyard shift from home, carrying the quiet anxiety that came with that time. Late at night, I found myself watching painting tutorials—not for any particular reason, but simply because they made me feel calm. A few weeks later, I purchased a basic watercolor set, and somewhere between the brushstrokes and the silence, something shifted. My insomnia eased, and the uncertainty felt smaller. From there, my childhood love for art was quietly resurrected. Since then, I’ve never stopped experimenting, branching out from watercolor to acrylic and oil, always chasing the joy of the process itself. I enjoy trying out different techniques, from washed watercolor landscapes and a fun, imaginary acrylic portrait of a "sheep with a pearl earring," to a boy fishing on a shimmering sunset shore in San Sebastián using oil.

And so, Blank Canvas was born as my own quiet little project. I pack every envelope by hand, enclosing a piece of wherever I’ve been painting that month—something slow, but made with deep care. I believe art isn’t meant to live behind a screen; rather, it is meant to be held, displayed, and felt. I hope it brings something beautiful to your day.
